Verified by a person
Two steps, then a human check.
We check your membership against your body’s public register by hand before your first case. It usually takes a day or two, and it is the whole point: a platform whose argument is that somebody qualified is accountable cannot verify that with a checkbox.
The process
01
Create an account
Email and a password, on the professional portal. Nothing about your practice yet.02
Tell us your standing
Your chartered body, your membership number and your grade. That is all we ask at this stage, because everything else is a setting you can change later and none of it should stand between you and applying.03
A person checks the register
We open your body's public directory and check the number and the grade. If your body's directory is one that only lists members who pay for a commercial listing, an absent name proves nothing and we will ask you for something else instead of rejecting you.04
You are told either way
Approved, and you can sign. Declined, and you get the reason in writing, along with a way to update your credentials and come back. A decline without a reason would be unusable.05
Three questions on first login
When you can work, what you will sign, and where the money should go. Every step can be skipped and none of it blocks anything, because a professional who closes the tab halfway through is not in a broken state.
What we ask for
And what we do not
We ask for
- Your chartered body, membership number and grade
- Your professional indemnity insurer, policy number and expiry
- How many hours a week you want, and whether you are accepting work
- Which of ten specialisms you take
- A payout account, set up through the payment provider's own onboarding
We do not ask for
- A CV, a portfolio or a covering letter
- An interview
- References
- Any commitment to a volume of work
- Exclusivity, or anything about your other clients
- Your bank details. Those go to the payment provider, never to us.
Honest
Two things worth saying before you apply
Wren is early. We are not going to quote you a case volume we cannot stand behind, and we are not going to describe a pipeline that does not exist yet. If that number matters to your decision, ask us and we will tell you what it actually is.
Not every switch is wired yet. The notification settings page lists six things you can be told about, and marks which of them a sender actually consults today. One does. The others exist as settings and nothing sends them yet, and the page says so on each row, because a switch that governs nothing is a promise the product has not made.
Questions
Questions
Which bodies do you accept?
RTPI, IHBC, CIWEM, CIEEM, CIHT, CIfA, IOA, IAQM. The chartered planner who signs a planning statement will usually be RTPI. The other bodies matter where a case turns on a specialism: heritage, water and flood risk, ecology, transport, archaeology, acoustics and air quality.
How long does verification take?
Usually a day or two. It is a person opening your body's public register and checking the number and the grade you gave us. It is not automated, and it is not meant to be.
Can I look around while I wait?
Yes. A pending account gets into the portal with a banner explaining what is gated. You can read the queue, open the earnings ledger and set your availability. What you cannot do is sign, and that is enforced where the signature is recorded rather than by hiding a button.
What if my name is not on the public directory?
Some directories only list members who pay for a commercial listing, so an absent name is not by itself a failed check. We will ask you for something else rather than reject you on it.
Do I need my own indemnity insurance?
Yes. You carry your own, and we record the insurer, the policy number and the expiry date. The portal shows you the expiry as a live state and warns you across every page as it approaches.
How much work will I get?
We are not going to give you a number we cannot stand behind. Wren is early, cases are assigned by specialism match and availability, and if you want a realistic answer about volume, ask us and we will tell you what it actually is.
Can I take a case and change my mind?
Yes. Hand it back and it is reassigned. There is no acceptance rate, no rating and no penalty.
