The review surface
A stack, not a table.
The queue used to be three statistics and a five-column table where every row was a link to somewhere else. Which meant the page you open to do the work could not be worked from. It was an index of work, and the work was one click away, once per document.

Reviewer queries
Most material first
- Judgement§5.4
Whether the rear elevation preserves the character and appearance of the conservation area is a judgement. The policy text is retrieved and quoted in full at 5.2. This is yours to make.
- Missing fact§3.2
Gross internal area of the proposed dwelling. Not dimensioned on the submitted drawings and not derivable from them.
- Missing reference§1.1
Reference of the accompanying structural report. Not supplied by the applicant.

What arrives
The document is on the page.
Rendered, with the sign-off decision underneath it. One at a time.
Above it, the three facts a queue actually has: how many are waiting, how many you have signed this month, and what that came to. Below it, the recently signed cases as a receipt, which is the answer to what exactly did I put my name to, a question you have to be able to answer months later.
The money on that page comes from the payout ledger rather than from the queue, so it is what you have earned this month and not what the pending drafts might be worth. A draft that has not been signed is not money.
Scoring
Two numbers, because they answer two questions.
Is the reasoning sound, and do we have all the data. Those are independent, and collapsing them into one score made the score useless.
The old version had the model do its own arithmetic: start at 85, subtract ten per gap. Three things were wrong with that and all three showed up on one document. Every gap cost the same, so eight items of missing register metadata took a section from 85 to 55 and told you it was weak when what was missing was a letterhead. It penalised honesty, because the rules require flagging rather than inventing and the score punished compliance, so a fabricating draft scored better than a candid one. And it conflated the two questions.
So now the model reports how sound its reasoning is given what it had, and classifies each gap by what kind of thing is missing: a judgement you must make, a fact somebody must measure, or a reference that lives on a letterhead. Completeness is computed from those weights in code, with a floor, so a document is never reported as worthless because of missing metadata.
Queries are sorted most material first, so you open on the questions that decide the document rather than on a missing consultant’s name.
Working
What you actually do
01
Read it, on the page
The rendered document, plus the draft section by section with its own confidence, its site-visit flags and its queries. No downloading required to decide whether it is any good.02
Download it as a Word file
The actual editable document, not a comment box and not a suggestion interface. You rewrite it in the tool you already use, as much or as little as you want.03
Upload your version
It is checked as a real file by its bytes rather than by its extension, stored, and the version is bumped. Nothing about this is visible to the client: no email, no status change, no payment. Uploading is not signing. What you changed is captured against the original and used to improve the next draft. It is not shown to you, and it is not used to score you.
04
Sign it
Two attestations. The signature is taken over the exact bytes of the file you uploaded, and recorded with your chartered body, your membership number and the time. Signing is refused outright until your own version exists.
The attestations
Two, not four
- 1
I have reviewed this document in full, I am satisfied it represents competent professional work, and I accept responsibility for its contents.
- 2
I have added my signature and date to the document.
The second is not redundant. Wren can verify that a file was uploaded and hash it. It cannot read whether a name and a date were written inside it. Only you know that, so only you can attest to it, and a signed document that turns out to bear no signature is a validation failure at the council and a hole in the record years later.
Your membership number is never retyped at signing. It is taken from the record an administrator verified, because a form that asks you to re-key it invites a typo into the one field where a typo matters.
The interface decides what is easy. The route decides what is possible. Both attestations are required by the route.
Refusing
You can refuse, and nothing pressures you not to.
There is no acceptance rate, no rating, no response-time target and no penalty for handing a case back.
If a draft is not good enough, rewrite it as much as it needs. If the case is outside your competence, say so and it is reassigned. If the client’s instructions are ones you are not willing to sign, that is a professional judgement and it is the whole reason you are in this chain.
An Affordable Housing Statement will not let you sign it alone at all: it needs a RICS-registered valuer alongside you, and the queue blocks it rather than trusting somebody to read a paragraph.
The rest
The rest of the portal
Practice
What is waiting on you, with the actual items listed and openable. The month in four figures. Your caseload with the one move each case needs.
Cases
Your caseload as a worklist. The fifth column is the next action, which is the reason the page earns its space.
Messages
The client inbox. The same conversation the client sees, not a second rendering of it that could disagree.
Earnings
Five states, countdowns, twelve months of history, and your payout account.
Credentials
Your chartered membership and your indemnity, with the expiry computed live every time the page loads.
Availability
Hours a week, whether you are accepting work, and which of ten specialisms you take. Each saves the moment you touch it.
Specialisms rank the cases you are offered. They never filter you out: an approved professional with nothing recorded is still assignable, and simply sorts below somebody who matches.
Start here
Apply and look around before you take anything.
Pending professionals get into the portal. You can read the queue, open the earnings ledger and see exactly what the work is. What you cannot do until a person has checked your RTPI or equivalent entry is sign.
